Department: Service Job Title: Mechanical Service Manager

Reports to: Branch Manager

Position Overview

Supervises all functions of service department personnel and activities. Will play a key role in maximizing shop efficiencies, revenues, productivity and customer satisfaction.

Essential Job Functions (include the following. Other duties may be assigned.)

Supervise and motivate service personnel, promote teamwork and manage an efficient workplace.

Develop and implement service programs for mechanics to follow. Monitor mechanics efficiency and address non-productive workers

Manage parts inventory by returning parts before they become obsolete. Keep a good turning inventory of parts on hand.

Identify training needs of techs and communicate to Branch Manager

Promote safety and an OSHA compliant shop

Maintain tools. Replace/repair broken tools and perform maintenance on tools.

Communicate with customers daily for repair status updates on their vehicles

Order parts needed on a daily basis.

Perform PM audits and repair audits

Schedule all incoming repair work

Ensure all repair orders are filled out correctly with parts and labor and process them promptly

Prepare quotes and communicate with customer in a timely fashion

Meet daily with Branch Manager and update on status of jobs in the shop

Monitor and approve mechanics payroll

Conduct weekly meetings with service personnel to discuss safety, tooling, housekeeping, etc.

Dispatch road service calls in a professional manner. Call customers back upon completion of road call.

Schedule service personnel for 40 hour work weeks plus the night time duty roster.

Ensure that new hires are not exposed to any potential danger without having had the proper training.

Inspect and maintain cleanliness and organization of service department, service vehicles and equipment.

Ensure that service personnel are in company approved attire.

Responsible for scheduling maintenance and repair of departments service vehicles and equipment.

Participate in planning personnel safety activities. Enforce use of safety equipment. You are responsible for the safety of the personnel at your location.

Reprimand and record all activity regarding personnel who violate company policies. Obtain guidance from Branch Manager.

Ensure that Outside Service calls are completed within 2 hours of customer contact.

As needed, perform any service personnels job duties to ensure prompt services to our customers.

Daily work hours may be extended based on business needs, which could include weekends.

Supervisory responsibilities: Directly supervise 2-7 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with STTCs policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; scheduling, performing and directing service work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees. Reporting vacation days, PTO days and excessive absenteeism and tardiness to Branch Manager.

Education and/or experience: 5 years or more related work experience and/or training.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid drivers license required. State inspection license may be required.

Language skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write legibly and to speak effectively before customers and employees of STTC. Good interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage employees and processes

Computer skills: Ability to use computer; training will be provided as needed.

Dress code: Pants and shirts are provided by Service Tire Truck Centers at a reasonable cost per company policy.

Work environment: while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions; hot and cold warehouse conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
